July 1-4 (Friday-Monday) Call
Fourth of Juplaya, Black Rock Desert
. This will be a really busy weekend on the Playa as many Burning Man attendees use this as a shakedown for Burning Man. No specific plans yet but we'll probably meet in Reno Thursday evening and head up to the Black Rock and camp on the edge of the Playa with Friends of Black Rock members. We'll probably visit area hot springs and the Emigrant Trail! Primitive Camping, bring all supplies and a shovel for personal needs! Ham Radio License---be sure to bring your radio! Leader is very familiar with the area! Dogs on leash, be prepared to pick up after them. Primitive camping, bring a shovel for personal needs or we may have a port-a-potti. Sign-up after 6/15! DOK. July 5 (Tuesday) 5:30 PM
Tuesday Evening Hike
. The Tuesday evening hikes are planned to accommodate most hikers, regardless of condition. We will use a moderate pace, cover 2-4 miles typically, and stay under 600' elevation gain. Conservation issues, as appropriate, will be highlighted along our walks. Trip location will be announced on MeetUp (http://www.meetup.com/Sierra-Club-Hiking-Reno/events/calendar/) by Sunday evening prior to the Tuesday hike. DOK. July 6 (Wednesday) 5:30 P.M.
Wednesday Conditioning Hike
. Join us on a hike rated moderately strenuous to get in shape for more challenging outings in summer. Trips are all 4-5 miles in length, may have over 1,000 feet of gain, and are led at a moderately fast pace in a two hour time frame. Not for beginners, but good for folks who are ready to step up the pace. We will point out any flora or fauna that we sight along the way. Always bring plenty of water, good trail shoes, clothing for weather conditions, and trekking poles may be suitable on many of our hikes. Well-mannered dogs are welcome on our hikes, but keep in mind some trails have leash laws or there may be snakes. Waiver to be signed at trailhead. July 7 (Thursday) 8:00 A.M.
Showers Lake - Carson Pass Day Hike
. This will be a 9 mile loop, via Meiss Pass with very scenic views. Out through Upper Truckee watershed usually with a profusion of wildflowers in meadows. Gain 2,000 ft. Some history of the area. Drivers' will need $5 cash for parking fee at TH. ND. Leader: T A Taro (775-530-2935). Moderately Strenuous.

July 9 (Saturday) 8:30 A.M.
Loch Leven Lakes Day Hike
. Hike from Big Bend area, other side of Donner summit, to Middle Loch Leven, for a nice lunch and swimming spot. Learn about the railroad. About 8 mi. RT, 1,000 ft gain. DL. Leader: Craig Mastos (775-348-1862; maquis@softcom.net). Moderate.

July 14 (Thursday) 8:00 A.M.
Elephant's Back -Carson Pass Day Hike
. Visit Frog, Winnemucca, and Round Top Lakes on this scenic hike. Scale Elephant's Back, enjoy views of the high Sierra. Hike is 9.5 mi. and 1,700 feet of gain possible. Possibly return by Woods Lake including hiking on a portion of the emigrant wagon train route, and viewing highway markers from two different more recent eras. Wild flowers should be in full display. Learn some history of area. Significant portions will be off-trail. ND. Leader: T A Taro (775-530-2935). Moderately Strenuous.

Lola Montez Lake Day Hike
. Hike to Lola Montez lake, lower lake only this trip, in the area of Castle Creek, from the other side of Soda Springs. About 7 mi RT, 800 ft gain. Some of the trail is dusty and some of the hike is on roadway. Creek should be low enough to afford easy crossing. DL. Leader: Craig Mastos (775-348-1862; maquis@softcom.net). Moderate.
