January 1 (Friday) 12:00 PM
New Year's Day HIke
. Join us on the annual New Year's Day hike. This hike is geared to be easy enough for nearly any hiker, and especially easy enough for the hangover sufferer. We start at 12 PM and will take a route permissible by local conditions -- details to given before the date. We will finish before 5 PM dark. Start 2016 with a healthy attitude and commitment. DOK. January 2 (Saturday) 9:00 A.M.
Beginner's Cross-Country Ski
. Beginner's cross-country ski trip in the Mt. Rose Meadows. Learn the basics from other Sierra Club X-C skiers: How to fall down, how to get up, and ski on the flats. Must provide your own equipment. Half-day trip. Bring lunch, water, sun-screen, and warm clothing. ND. Leader: Ridge Walker (853-8055). Co-Leader: Rhonda Jarrett (622-8698). Moderately Easy.

Cross-Country Ski the Tahoe Meadows (6 Skiers)
. You must RSVP and take the questionnaire here: http://www.meetup.com/Sierra-Club-Hiking-Reno/events/227069236/ The Tahoe Meadows are a Renoite's go-to place for ungroomed cross-country skiing. Many options are available and I'll decide what we end up doing based on who RSVP's. We will try to follow one of Marcus Libkind's classic tours to keep things simple and organized. January 10 (Sunday) 9:30 am
Skunk Harbor Snowshoe
. Moderate to easy snow shoe, should be fine for adventurous beginners. Not fast paced, no extreme slopes and a good alternative to Chickadee Ridge. Join us for a snowshoe to a scenic harbor and historic house on Lake Tahoe. Snowshoe is about 4 miles RT and has 800-1,000 feet of gain. Parking is limited so we will carpool to the trail head. Bring plenty of water, gear, and clothing(NO Cotton) for conditions. Bad weather for the day will cancel, but if no snow then a pleasant hike. Well behaved dogs on leash welcome. Richardson Lake and Ludlow Hut Via General Creek (6 Skiers)

January 17 (Sunday) 9:00 A.M.
Intermediate Cross-Country Ski
. Intermediate cross-country ski trip in the Mt. Rose Meadows. We will ski the hills and gullies south of Sheep Flats and up past Chickadee Ridge. For advanced beginner's (who survived Jan. 2 outing), and Intermediate level skiers. Must provide your own equipment. 3/4-day trip. Bring lunch, water, sun-screen, and warm clothing, ND. January 21 (Thursday) 8:00 A.M.
Sawmill in the Desert
. Near Buckland Station, south of Silver Springs, along Carson River. 9 mi loop; mostly flat. Remains of a sawmill operation and current route of the railroad, with 100 year old bridge, on rail line to Hawthorn. Hike a portion of route of Carson and Colorado Railroad, circa early 1880's with an original wooden culvert. A few enigmas. ND. Leader: T A Taro (775-530-2935). Easy.

January 24 (Sunday) 10:00 A.M.
Mt. Rose Meadow Full Moon Snowshoe
. Snowshoeing with a full moon adds a new dimension to the meadows. We plan to circumnavigate the meadow, sticking to the flatter areas for 3-4 miles and possible 400 feet of gain overall. Bring water, a headlamp, layer clothing, and perhaps a hot drink will be nice when we take a break near our half-way point. All participants must have their own snowshoes and be familiar with how to use them. Also, please sign-up only if you plan to stick with the group. We do not want any early sign-outs on this type of a trip. If you bring a dog, have a leash for near the highway. Bad weather will cancel this outing. This Outing was originally scheduled for Saturday, but due to WEATHER conditions we are moving the date to Sunday. DOK. Leader: Holly Coughlin (775-331-7488). Lahontan Shore Day Hike
. Lahontan Reservoir near Silver Springs. Enjoy the silence and stark beauty of this area. Six miles total in-and-out along the 'beach'. Tufa formations. Reported to be the area where the hotel was located where "Mark Twain" was trapped during a flood of the Carson River. Easy $1 CASH per person State Park fee . ND. Leader: T A Taro Easy.
