. Get in shape after work with an evening conditioning hike of 4-6 miles at a brisk pace. Elevation gain up to 1000 ft. Easy River Walk (one of the 11 different segments of the Truckee River)
. The Sierra Club Easy River Walk is a Monday evening, after-work walk and optional dining-out afterwards, that is between a 4-6 mile-long round trip covering a different 2 to 3 mile segment of the Truckee River. Specific hikes are repeated every 11 weeks. In total, the 11 segment hikes, covering about 30 miles, span from Floriston, CA to USA Parkway exit (I80 Exit 32)). A 12th segment involves a weekend-only hike that spans 7 miles (round-trip) from the end of Quilici Ranch Road (in Verdi NV) to the Fleish Suspension Bridge a mile inside California. After the Monday-night hike, which lasts from 105 to 135 minutes long, those interested in eating out nearby get together at a restaurant for post-hike fun and food. During the Winter months, this hike starts earlier than normal and attendees bring a hiking headlamp. The rest of the year, the hike starts at 5:30 pm. . Thunder Mountain near Carson Pass. Hike about seven miles R/T with about 2,000 feet of elevation gain on an in and out hike. Scenic views on an established trail mostly on a ridge line. Learn some history about the area. ND. Leader: T A Taro (775-530-2935). Moderately Strenuous.

September 13 (Sunday)
Mississippi Canyon Exploratory Hike--Stillwater Mountains
. This is a reschedule of an exploratory trip into the Mississippi Canyon area at the NE end of the Stillwater Range. Hikers should be prepared for up to 12 mi RT and as much as 3000-4000 ft of elevation gain. (It may be less, but you should be prepared). This canyon is reputed to be one of the prettiest places in the Stillwaters and home to a lovely trout stream. It is also part of the Stillwater Mountains Wilderness Study Area (WSA) so we'll learn about its current status and prospects for becoming a Wilderness Area from Friends of Nevada Wilderness. Tinker's Knob Dayhike
. This hike offers fantastic vistas along this portion of the PCT. Trip is 16 miles RT with about 2,000 feet of gain overall. Genoa Loop Day Hike
. Genoa has a rich history in Nevada and a nice trail system. We'll hike a moderately strenuous trail overlooking the city and valley beyond. The trail starts out steep, levels off for a couple of miles, and then drops back to the valley floor. Elevation gain is roughly 1,800 feet in an 8 mile RT hike. Poles are recommended, as there is lots of water. Bring lunch and we'll relax on the trail to refuel. Dogs on leash are okay. DL. Leader: Connie Webb (7750772-4187). Machado Post Piles
. Fire and Ice the Machado Postpiles day hike in the Carson Pass area. The existence and location of these natural hexagonal basalt columns, similar to, but believed to be millions of years older than the Devils Postpiles near Mammoth were not confirmed until about 1990. That's the 'fire'; the 'ice' is evidenced by the numerous large erratics near beginning of the hike and the glacial striations. About five miles on an in and out with about 800 feet of elevation gain. Not on a trail. ND. Leader: T A Taro (775-530-2935). Moderately Strenuous.
