Devils Oven Dayhike
. Join us on a full day's hike to Devils Oven Lake near Castle Peak off I-80.  This hidden lake lies under Basin Peak and towering granite cliffs. Starting on the PCT, the loop hike will be 12 miles, with nearly 3000' of elevation gain as we make ups and downs. Numerous spring-fed rivulets feed great summer flower displays. August 2 (Sunday) 8:30 A.M.
Freel Peak Dayhike (10,881 ft.)
. Peak back of the highest mountain in the Carson Range, located on the south rim of the Tahoe basin. Hiking mostly on the Tahoe Rim Trail, except for the final cross-country assault on the summit. Overview and lessons on the geologic history of this part of the Sierra. Eight miles RT, 2,500 ft. elevation gain. This hike is about 25 percent harder than Mt. Rose. Trip limit 12. DL. Five Lakes - Two snow banks Day Hike
. We will be able to touch them all on this hike. Carson Pass area. Hike from the ranger station to Frog, Winnemucca, Round Top, Emigrant and Caples Lakes. This is about a 12 mile hike and is ONE WAY, with a vehicle shuttle. Elevation gain of about 1,500 feet with some cross country/boulder scrambling. Learn a bit about the history of the emigrant wagon trail in that area. ND. Leader: T A Taro (775-530-2935). Strenuous.

Moderate Evening Conditioning Hike
. Get in shape after work with an evening conditioning hike of 4-6 miles at a brisk pace. Elevation gain up to 1000 ft. Incline Loop Day Hike
. Come join Jeanne and Connie as they lead their first Sierra Club hike! The area is beautiful. We'll do about a 12 mile hike that will include Incline Lake, Rose Knob, and maybe bag a peak with Relay. Elevation gain is about 2,200. Due to the length and the elevation, we would call this a strenuous hike. Poles, water, lunch, and a desire to have fun are required. Good hiking shoes are a must. Perseid Meteor Shower Campout in the Black Rock
. We'll meetup in Reno Friday evening and be camping in the widest part of the playa about 20 miles north of Gerlach, about 100 miles north of Reno. Learn about the Black Rock with an experienced visitor! We'll have portapotties but that's about all, there may be some meals provided and a potluck Saturday night. The meteor shower peaks about 8/12 but there will still be plenty left! New moon will mean good stars! Sign up after 8/1. We'll probably meet up Friday evening and head up. Other activities will likely include visits to nearby natural hot springs and the Emigrant Trail. Expect about 100 people at this event sponsored by Friends of Black Rock! ND, easy. August 14-17 (Friday-Monday) TBD
Troy Peak (11,298') Backpack
. Troy Peak is one of the higher and more remote peaks on the Great Basin Peaks Section list. Due to a major wash out in 2013 it is now more feasible to climb this peak as part of an overnight backpack trip. We'll leave early on Friday, drive out to the trailhead and backpack about 4 miles up into Scofield Canyon. The next day will also be an early start in order to climb the peak and then hike back out to the cars. Depending on the group we may return home on Sunday or do some exploring and drive back Monday. The backpacking portion of the trip will be moderate, but the peak climb will be strenuous (over 3500' elevation gain) with some class 2-3 scrambling. Come explore the Grant Range Wilderness Area and learn more about Nevada's many other Wilderness Areas. Contact leader for screening and further details. ND. Red Lake Peak and Steven's Peak Day Hike
. Scale two peaks over 10,000 feet in elevation on a day hike in the Carson Pass area. Learn some history of the area. Over 2,000 feet of gain for the day in about six miles; mostly off trail. August 22 (Saturday) 6:30 A.M.
Mt. Tallac Day Hike
. Mt. Tallac is the Native American word for "large mountain". It is the high point on a massive ridge that forms the eastern wall of Desolation Valley. This hike is around 10 miles and has 3,300 feet of elevation gain. Views of Lake Tahoe, Fallen Leaf Lake, and the surrounding area. Well-conditioned hikers only as this is a strenuous trip. DL. Sierra Club Member's Picnic at Galena Creek
. Join us for a day of food and friendship under the relaxing pines at the Manzanita Group Picnic area at Galena Creek Park. Take the 2nd entrance (the same as the fish hatchery). Picnic is between 11:00-3:30 P.M. Bring a pot-luck dish to share. We will have hot coals available, if you want to grill something. Also, we will provide cold water, iced-tea, paper plates, utensils, and napkins. There's a volleyball court for those who want to play a friendly game after eating. Emigrant Lake Day Hike
. This hike is in the Mokelumne Wilderness and offers great vistas of volcanic peaks, as we wind by Caples Lake and then climb up to Emigrant Lake. Trip is slightly over 8 miles hand has 1,000 feet of elevation gain. Learn about flora or fauna along the route. Dogs must have leashes and be very well-mannered. Trip limit 12. DOK. Leavitt Peak Dayhike (11,659 ft.)

Trek from Sonora Pass southward along the Pacific Crest Trail to the 11,659 ft. summit of Leavitt Peak. Learn about and see the high alpine environment of the central Sierra Nevada.
