Moderate Moonlight Conditioning Hike
. Get in shape after work with an evening moonlight conditioning hike of 4-6 miles at a brisk pace. we will start around sunset, and hike for a couple of hours by the light of the nearly full moon, in the hills north of Reno. April 2 (Thursday) 8:00 A.M.
Two Ladies & Two Gents
. Two Ladies and Two Gents. Come and meet them; three peaks over 6,000 foot elevation; Rose and Kate Sutro, and the Grosch brothers. Near Virginia City. About 1,000 feet of gain for the day, and about three miles in sort of a loop. Mostly off trail, some rock scrambling. Of course there's an enigma. ND. Leader: T A Taro (775- 530-2935). April 3 (Friday) Call
Lunar Eclipse and a Hot Spring: Primitive Camping in the Black Rock
. Call after 3/20 for actual meeting time and place! Ham Radio Operator? Bring your radio to use on the 2 area repeaters! We'll meet up in Reno on Friday evening and head up to the Black Rock Desert about 100 miles N. of Reno. We'll be camping at an undeveloped hot spring to watch the Lunar Eclipse. The totality of the eclipse is about 5 am Saturday morning. We'll have a potluck Saturday night and probably a nap Saturday afternoon!! This spring has year-round access but the playa will probably be impassable. 4WD not needed. Sunday we'll probably visit a nearby art gallery or ???? Leader very familiar with the area. Primitive camping, bring all water and supplies, shovel for personal needs. Call about RV's/trailers, small ones may be OK! Temps appx 40's at night and 60's in the day but that's a guess! Mt Ina Coolbrith dayhike
. This peak, only slightly over the CA-NV border near the Portola turnoff north of Reno, is a seldom-visited peak but a quite challenging hike. The elevation gain is about 2600 ft, and we will be going mostly cross-country for a roundtrip length of about 8 miles. Is this a desert peak or a Sierra Nevada peak? DOK. Would You be Lost Without a Leader? Beginning Map & Compass Class
. Would you be Lost without a Leader? This class is for you! In Reno, Beginning Map & Compass Class: We'll meet Saturday Morning and conduct the "classroom" portion of the class in a parking lot at a south Reno trailhead. Then we'll do an easy hike to "put it into practice" and finish up around lunchtime. We'll talk about different types of compasses, how to find your location on a map, easy navigation tricks, and talk briefly about GPS but this is Not a GPS class! Leader is a SAR guy and has used map and compass for years. Feel free to bring a compass but trip leader will supply maps & compasses! Signup after 4/1! Bad weather cancels. DOK. Gloria's Peak
. Come and join us on this beautiful trek in the Pah Rah Range.Views of Pyramid Lake most of the time. Nice rock formations.Hoping to see some flowers also. The length of the trip is about 7+ miles with an elevation gain of 2,000 feet. Partially in used roads and the rest cross-country. Moderately strenuous,but we will hike to the group's pace. Red Rock ACES cleanup and hike
. We'll take an hour to clean up the area with trash bags and then commence a hike to the top of the Seven Lakes Range. The hike will be a loop with about 1000 ft. of elevation gain and about 5-6 miles total, mostly cross-country. This area has amazing rock formations. DOK. April 19 (Sunday) 9:00 A.M.
Spanish Springs Peak (7406')
. Moderate Day Hike/Peak Bag of Spanish Springs Peak at 7406 feet. Expect lots of glorious wildflowers; and if we're lucky we'll see a few antelope and golden eagles. Five miles and 1,500 ft to the summit; half of it cross-country across volcanic terrane. Learn local geology and wildlife. Moderate hike, not for beginners.

Buckland Station [Downstream ]
. Buckland Station south of Silver Springs day. This nearly 10 mile loop hike on flat ground will start at historic Buckland Station, proceed downstream along the Carson River enjoying the riparian habitat. Return will be on a segment of the Pony Express Trail route. Learn some history of the area. $1 cash per person State Park walk-in fee. Desatoya Mountains/Big Den Creek day hike
. Explore this little known and beautiful area in the Desatoya Mountains. We'll be hiking up the Big Den Creek canyon, past the waterfall (yes, waterfall!) to Big Den Spring. About 5-6 mi RT and 1500-2000' elevation gain. This is part of the Desatoya Mountains Wilderness Study Area (WSA) and we'll learn about Friends of Nevada Wilderness perspective on the possibility of becoming a full-fledged Wilderness Area. April 29 - May 1 (Wednesday-Friday)
Central Nevada Prominent Peaks: Cain, Tobin and Moses (exploratory)
. The Augusta Mountains Wilderness Study Area (WSA) lies at the intersection of Churchill, Lander and Pershing counties with the high point being Cain Mountain (8409', prominence 3199'). We'll explore this WSA while attempting to climb Cain and then move on to attempt two other prominent peaks: Mount Tobin (9775', prominence 4831') in the Tobin Range WSA and Mount Moses (8649', prominence 3549'), but not necessarily in that order. While exploring these areas we'll also discuss the latest Friends of Nevada Wilderness thoughts on how best to protect the wilderness characteristics of all three areas. The trip will involve dry camping at locations to be determined in the field and substantial hiking/climbing on three successive days. High clearance 4WD vehicles will be necessary.
