ExCom Meeting

February 7 (Saturday) 8:00 A.M.
Churchill Butte Day Hike
. Churchill Butte is near Silver Springs. We will scale the butte, overlooking historic Fort Churchill, portions of the emigrant wagon route, ancient and modern Lake Lahontan, the Pony Express Trail, and the Lincoln Hwy. Learn some history of the area. About 9.5 miles with around 2,200 feet of total gain for the day, all in the first four miles. Portions of hike are off trail with steep descents. ND. February 7 (Saturday) TBD
Petersen Mountain Day Hike
. Come enjoy panoramic views from the high point (7841') of the Petersen Mountain Range that straddles the California-Nevada border just north of Reno. This is on the Great Basin Peaks list. Learn about how this area may be a candidate for Wilderness designation, what Friends of Nevada Wilderness is doing and how you can help. Also, what's with all those bird houses...? February 14 (Saturday) 9:30 A.M.
Chickadee Ridge Snowshoe
. This is one of our favorite snowshoes and what a way to begin Valentine's Day! Our trip will begin in the Tahoe Meadows and we will climb about 800-1,000 feet to Chickadee Ridge. The hike is around six miles to a lunch spot with fabulous vistas. If we are lucky, little chickadee birds will be in attendance. Trip limit 20. Please call for details. February 15 (Sunday) 9:00 A.M.
Echo Lakes Cross-Country Ski
. Moderate cross-country ski trip in the glacially-carved Echo Lakes Basin. Expect to see gorgeous granites, great geologic terrane, and hear the "Echo". All day trip. Bring lunch, water, sun-screen, and warm clothing. 6-7 miles and 200 feet of elevation loss or gain. Not for beginning skiers ND. Leader: Ridge Walker (853-8055). Moderate.

February 21 (Saturday) 8:00 A.M.
V & T Route Day Hike
. Hike along the Virginia & Truckee rail bed between Gold Hill and Mound House. About 9 miles, down hill. Learn some history of the area and some history of this railroad and the impact railroads had on America. A vehicle shuttle will be necessary. ND. Leader: T A Taro (775-530-2935). Moderate.

Pah-Rum Peak (7608') Day Hike
. The high point of the Fox Range situated just north of Pyramid Lake provides views of Pyramid and both Smoke Creek and Black Rock Deserts. We will be hiking in a BLM designated Wilderness Study Area (WSA) and we'll discuss it's current status as well as the prospects for Wilderness designation. The hike will be about 6 mi RT and over 2600' of elevation gain. Note: Significant snow accumulation and/or weather could modify our Plans. Contact leader for details. ND.
