Churchill Butte Day Hike.
Churchill Butte is near Silver Springs and overlooks historic Ft. Churchill, portions of emigrant wagon route, ancient and modern Lake Lahontan, Pony Express Trail, and the Lincoln Hwy. Learn some history. 10 mi, 2,200 ft gain. Portions of route are off trail with steep descents.

Great Basin Group Holiday Party.
Join us for a merry evening to celebrate a great year of Outings, Programs, Getting Kids Outdoors (GKO), and all the other events we've been involved with. Bring a pot-luck dish to share and BYOB. Our party is in the Bartley Ranch main building. Bring a friend to share in the fun! We can use a hand with set-up, clean-up, and to greet folks; please contact Charlotte if you would like to help.

Petersen Mountain (7841') Day Hike.
Come enjoy panoramic views from the high point of the Petersen Mountain Range that straddles the California-Nevada border just north of Reno. This peak is on the Great Basin Peaks list (#86) and provides a full-blown wilderness experience within minutes of downtown Reno. Learn about how this area may be a candidate for Wilderness designation, what Friends of Nevada Wilderness is doing to make that happen and what you can do to help. Note: Significant snow accumulation and/or weather could modify our plans. Contact leader for details.

Hidden Valley Highland Loop.
Fantastic views of the Truckee Meadows as we hike up to the ridge line above Hidden Valley. The loop is 6 miles and has 1,800 feet of gain. Bring lunch to enjoy near our half-way point. Observe Pinyon Pine, interesting rock formations, and possible wild horses.

Carson River Railroads Day Hike.
Carson River Railroads are near Mound House. Hike is 9 miles one-way with a vehicle shuttle. Gain 500 ft. Along very scenic Carson River, wildlife sightings are possible, and remains of two Comstock era railroads. Portions are off-trail.

Cross-Country Ski at Historic Clair Tappaan Lodge (6 Skiers).

Clair Tappaan Lodge is now grooming trails, so this should be a fun place to check out their 14 km of groomed trails on National Forest land. Trail passes are $10 - this is the minimum that you will need to purchase. You can also rent skis/boots/poles for $20 if you need to.
