September 3 (Wednesday) 5:30 P.M.
Wednesday Conditioning Hike Steamboat Ditch Trail
. After-work hike from the Thomas Cooke Trail to the Steamboat Ditch Trail 4-5 miles and 800 feet of gain possible at a moderately fast pace. Learn about flora or fauna along the way. To get there take I 80 W. to McCarren and go Lt. Take a Rt. on 4th Street and follow 2 mi. to Woodland and turn Lt. Go straight and meet at Mayberry Crossing Park at the end of the road, right by the river. Bring plenty of water and trail shoes. Leash for dogs along the river. No need to call. DOK. Moderate Evening Conditioning Hike
. Get in shape after work with an evening conditioning hike of 4-6 miles at a brisk pace. Elevation gain up to 1000 ft. Discover trails and learn about nature and geology in and around the Truckee Meadows.

September 6 (Saturday) TBA
Camp and Kayak in the Lakes Basin
. We plan to car camp in one of the campgrounds in the Lakes Basin area near Sardine or Packer Lake. There is great hiking in this area and several lakes that we can kayak. We will leave Saturday morning, set up camp, and either hike or kayak. Call for details the week before this outing. Hikes will be moderate to moderately strenuous. September 7 (Sunday) 8:00 A.M.
Mt. Elwell Dayhike
. Hike to the peak of Mt. Elwell near Plumas-Eureka State Park, CA. Mt. Elwell tops out at 7812' for about a 2600' climb. The RT distance is roughly 12 miles. High lakes, great views, and old-growth forests. Learn of mining activities in this district at the state park museum. DL. Leader: David von Seggern (775-303-8461; vonseg1@sbcglobal.net). Wednesday Conditioning Hike near Eagle Canyon
. Join us on this after-work hike that will be around 4 mi. and 1,000 feet of gain. Learn about flora or fauna that we see along the way. To get there take Damonte Ranch Pkwy. .7 mi. and turn Lt. on Steamboat Pkwy. Follow 1.4 mi. to Rio Wrangler and turn Rt. go .4 mi to McCauly Ranch and turn Lt. Park on side or end of street on the N. side of the High School. Bring plenty of water and good trail shoes. This is a more difficult trail and steep. Do not need to call. DOK. Thunder Mountain near Carson Pass
. Hike about 7 miles RT with about 2,000 feet of gain. Scenic views on an established trail, mostly on a ridge line. Learn some history about the area. ND. Leader: T A Taro (775-530-2935). Moderately Strenuous.

Wednesday Conditioning Hike Huffaker Hills and Rattlesnake Mtn.
. This will be our last Wed. conditioning after-work hike for this year. Hike will be around 4 mi. and 600 feet of gain. Learn about flora or fauna we see along the way. To get there from the corner of Longley and S.E. McCarren head east on McCarren .1 mi. and turn on Alexander Lake Rd. Follow the road 1.1 mi. to Huffaker Hills Trailhead on the Rt. side. Bring plenty of water and trail shoes. Dogs should have a leash. After the hike, we plan to go to dinner at a nearby Mexican restaurant and celebrate another great year of Wed. hikes. September 25-27 (Thursday-Saturday) TBD
Hot Springs and Rockets in the Black Rock
. Primitive camping at a natural hot spring. There's a rocket launch event on the playa this weekend so we'll have a little bit of a floor show. Full moon will be gorgeous! We'll probably swing by the site of Burning Man to check on their cleanup. We'll meet up in Reno on Friday evening and head on up. 4WD not needed but High Clearance vehicles only. This is a very remote area with limited cell service and just about any other service! Bring all water, shovel for personal needs, sign-up after 9/13. No RV's/trailers! ND. September 27 (Saturday) 8:00 A.M.
Fire and Ice-The Machado Postpiles Day Hike
. Hike in the CArson Pass area. The existence and location of these natural hexagonal basalt columns, similar to, but believed to be millions of years older than the Devil's Postpiles near Mammoth were not confirmed until 1990. That's the fire and the ice is evidenced by the numerous large erratics near the beginning of the hike and the glacial striations. About 5 miles RT and 800 feet of gain. Not on a trail. ND. Leader: T A Taro (775-530-2935). Moderately Strenuous.

September 27 (Saturday) 8:30 a.m.
Mt. Tallac Day Hike
. We will bag this famous peak towering at elevation 9,735 feet over the west shore of Lake Tahoe. From Fallen Leaf Lake, the route is 11 miles RT, with an elevation gain of 3,200. Excellent views from the summit and hopefully we will see some early fall colors. Learn about the geology and natural history of the glaciated Desolation Valley and Tahoe basin.
