August 6 (Wednesday) 6:00 P.M.
Bat Walk Along the Truckee River
. Our Wednesday Conditioning Hike is a fast-paced walk for 4 mi. with 100 ft. of gain. On our way back, we will stop at the McCarren bridge and view the bats as they come out from under the bridge by the thousands. Meet at Rock Park between Mill St. and Greg. Bring plenty of water and a snack. Dogs must have leashes and baggie. No need to call. DOK. Leader: Holly Coughlin Co-Leader: Jim Call Moderately Easy.

August 7 (Thursday) 5:30 P.M.
Moderate Evening Conditioning Hike
. Get in shape after work with an evening conditioning hike of 4-6 miles at a brisk pace. Elevation gain up to 1000 ft. Discover trails and learn about nature and geology in and around the Truckee Meadows.

August 8-10 (Friday-Sunday) Call
Perseid Meteor Shower on the Playa
. Perseid Meteor Shower campout on the Playa Meetup time and place are bogus, must call trip leader at 775/eight 43-six 443 to learn real meetup time & place. RSVP 7/25 - 8/5! We'll be meeting up Friday evening and heading up to the Black Rock about 100 miles north of Reno. Back Sunday afternoon. Coming up Saturday Morning? Contact leader but we'll be mid-playa so you'll have hunt us down! Burning Man setup will be going on so the playa will be pretty busy. There will be 50+/- people camping at Mid-Playa to watch the meteor shower. Unfortunately, the moon will be full on Sunday but we'll be visiting hot springs and having a potluck, possible dutch oven cookoff. Dogs on leash, ham radio activity, we'll have portapotties but no other facilities. RV's & Trailers OK to campsite but no hookups + expect dust! DOK. Leader: David Book (775-843-6443). Easy.

August 9 (Saturday) 8:00 A.M.
Five Lakes-Two Snow Banks Day hike
. Hike from the ranger station to Frog, Winnemucca, Round Top, Emigrant, and Caples Lakes. This is about 12 miles and hike is one way, with a vehicle shuttle. Elevation gain of about 1,500 feet with some cross country/boulder scrambling. Learn about the history of the emigrant wagon trail in this area. ND. Leader: T A Taro (775-530-2935). Moderately Strenuous.

August 9 (Saturday) 9:00 A.M.
Gourmet Hike to Loch Leven
. The emphasis for this outing is good food, friendship, and fun. We will hike around 6 miles RT with slightly over 1,000 feet of gain and view a couple of pretty Sierra Lakes. Everyone brings a "gourmet" dish to share. In the past, people have been really creative with salads, cheeses, ectů The lake is usually nice to swim in, so a dip might be in order before we eat. August 10 (Sunday) 8:30 A.M.
Freel Peak Dayhike (10,881 ft.)
. Peak back of the highest mountain in the Carson Range, located on the south rim of the Tahoe basin. Hiking mostly on the Tahoe Rim Trail, except for the final cross-country assault on the summit. Overview and lessons on the geologic history of this part of the Sierra. Eight miles RT, 2,500 ft. elevation gain. This hike is about 25 percent harder than Mt. Rose. Trip limit 12. DL. . This after-work hike will be about 4 mi.RT and 800 feet of gain. Learn about flora or fauna along the way. To get there take the Mt. Rose Hwy. W. to the Galena Creek Visitor's Center on the Rt. August 16-17 (Saturday-Sunday) TBA
Two hikes in Yosemite National Park (Tuolumne Area)
. First hike is Young Lakes which is a visit to three scenic lakes with beautiful ,majestic views of peaks around.It will be a loop with a distance of 14 miles and 1600 feet elevation gain. Moderate strenuous because of length. High point is at 10,000. Second hike is a visit to North Dome which will start under forest. We will visit the only natural arch in the park. The views are incredible of Cloud Rest,Half Dome,Glacier Point and gaze at three different canyons and Yosemite Valley below.Distance is 9 miles with an elevation of 1000.Moderately strenuous because of 700 ascent in the way back. High point is 8100. The leaders will camp earlier at White Wolf Campground. Anyone is welcome to join them earlier.This campground is first come,first served. The campground is at 8000, located between the Tuolumne Meadows and the valley. ND. Leader: Lucrecia Belancio (775-410-1085; lucrecianature@gmail.com). . This after-work hike will be about 4 mi. and have 800 feet of gain at a moderately fast pace. Learn about flora or fauna as we hike. To get there take I 80 W. to the turn-off for Boomtown or Garson Rd. Go across the overpass heading south and turn Rt. There is a fire station at the end of the road. Red Lake and Steven's Peaks Hike
. Scale two peaks over 10,000 feet in elevation in one day. Hike is in the Carson Pass area. Learn some history of the area. Over 2,000 feet of gain for the day in about 6 miles; mostly off trail. Wildflower viewing. For experienced and conditioned hikers. Bad weather cancels. ND. Leader: T A Taro (775-530-2935). Strenuous.

August 24 (Sunday) 9:00 A.M.
Mt. Rose Dayhike
. This is a favorite destination, in our area, for fabulous views of Tahoe, Donner Lake, and the Truckee Meadows from the summit at 10,776 feet. Hike 10 miles RT with 2,300 feet of gain. . Join us on this after-work hike in the Thomas Creek area. Hike will be around 4 mi. and have 800-1,000 feet of gain. Learn about flora or fauna. To get there take Hwy. 395 to Mt. Rose Hwy and go west to Timberline Dr. Turn Rt. and go 1.2 mi. to trailhead parking lots with kiosk and restrooms. Bring plenty of water and trail shoes. Must have leash for dogs.
