Wednesday Evening Conditioning Hike
. Get in shape after work with an evening conditioning hike of 4-6 miles at a brisk pace. Elevation gain up to 1000 ft. Discover trails and learn about nature and geology in and around the Truckee Meadows. Meeting at Wildcreek Park, 3680 El Rancho Blvd. in Sun Valley.
Directions: From US-395, north of downtown, exit on No. McCarran Blvd, and turn east. Head east and turn left at the next traffic light (El Rancho). Drive north about 1/2 mile, and turn right at the entrance to Wildcreek Park. (Near Weems Way.)

April 3 (Thursday) 5:30 P.M.
Moderate Evening Conditioning Hike

April 5 (Saturday) 8:00 A.M.
Two Ladies and Two Gents Dayhike
. Come and meet three peaks in the 6,000' range: Rose, Kate and the Grosch brothers. This quasi-loop hike is near Virginia City with about 1000' of gain in three miles. We will be mostly off trail with some rock scrambling. Of course there is an enigma! ND. Leader: T A Taro (775-530-2935). Strenuous.

April 9 (Wednesday) 5:30 P.M.

Discover trails and learn about nature and geology in and around the Truckee Meadows. Meeting at Highland Ranch Park, 1200 Highland Ranch Parkway,(between Sun Valley Blvd. and Pyramid Highway).
Directions: From I-80, exit at Pyramid Way, and head north on the Pyramid Hwy. After approx. 5 mi., turn left on Highland Ranch Parkway. Drive up the hill approx. about 1.5 mile, and Highland Ranch Park will be on your left. (Just past the top of the hill.)

General Program Meeting: The Evolution of Sierra Club Photography, 1924-1961.
. Meet at Bartley Ranch Western Heritage Center off Lakeview Dr. in SW Reno. Social at 6:30, program at 7:00. Learn how the Sierra Club grew from a weekend hiking club in the Bay Area into a national activist organization and political lobby and how photography was essential to this transformation. April 12-13 (Saturday-Sunday)
Hot Springs and Cold Nights
. Primitive Camping, no cell service. We'll be camping at Trego Hot Spring in the Black Rock Desert about 100 miles north of Reno. Exact itinerary will depend on Playa conditions (it's driveable as of February but who knows about April!). We may end up staying at the one spring with good all-weather access! April 13 (Sunday) 10:00 A.M.
Spanish Springs Peak
. Moderate Day Hike/Peak Bag of Spanish Springs Peak at 7406 feet. Expect lots of glorious wildflowers; and if we're lucky we'll see a few antelope and golden eagles. Five miles and 1,500 ft to the summit; half of it cross-country across volcanic terrane. Learn local geology and wildlife. Moderate hike, not for beginners. DL. Leader: Ridge Walker (853-8055). April 15 (Tuesday) 5:30 PM
Tuesday evening conditioning hike
. We start our 2014 series of Tuesday easy conditioning hikes. The Tuesday hikes are meant to be enjoyed by anyone, and will be an easy pace over good trail. We will hike each time for about 2-3 miles and about 1-2 hours in the Truckee Meadows area. Learn about the natural features of our "backyard" while enjoying an exercise outing. Hikes start at 5:30 PM and details will be announced on MeetUp two days before the hike (http://www.meetup.com/Sierra-Club-Hiking-Reno/events/calendar/). DOK. Hiking in the Pah Rah Range, at the east end of Prater Way in Sparks.
Directions: From I-80, exit at Vista Blvd, and head north on Vista. After approx. 1 mi., turn right on Prater Way. Head east 3 blocks and turn right at the Northern Nevada Medical Center. Drive up the road to the top of the hill and the Vista Medical Terrace, and park there. More info at: Meet Up site .

April 19 (Saturday) 8:00 A.M.
Buckland Station Dayhike
. Join us for a hike starting at historic Buckland Station, proceeding downstream along the Carson river and returning on a segment of the Pony Express Trail. This is a nearly 10 mile loop on flat ground. We will be enjoying the riparian habitat, witnessing the eruption of spring and learning some local history. There is also the option of touring the remains of Fort Churchill on your own after the hike. A State Park walk-in fee of $1.00 per person will be required. ND. Leader: T A Taro (775-530-2935). April 19 (Saturday) 10:00 A.M.
Hidden Valley Loop Dayhike
. Join us for a 5 mile hike with approximately 1000' of gain above the Hidden Valley area. Desert flowers should be plentiful. Plan on lunch with a beautiful view of the Truckee Meadows. Fawn Lane Wednesday Evening Conditioning Hike
. Get in shape for summer hiking on a moderate to faster paced outing with 500-800 feet of gain and 3-4 miles RT. Learn about flora or fauna in the area. Meeting location: Take Hwy 395 S. to Mt. Rose exit and travel west 1.8 miles to Fawn Ln. and turn left. Follow to where the road ends at dirt and park on sides. Bring plenty of water and trail shoes. DOK. Church's Pond Day Hike
. Enjoy a hike in Galena Park of approximately 4 miles with about 600' of gain. Learn about flora and fauna in the park. Bring plenty of water and trail shoes. Dogs must have a leash. DOK. Hike Into Mt. Rose Wilderness Via Hunter Creek
. Join us for a special hike to celebrate Earth Day and the 50th anniversary of the Wilderness Act. Reno has one of the most accessible wilderness areas in the US and everyone should enjoy it. We will meet at 5:30 on April 27 at the Hunter Creek Trailhead in west Reno (at the end of Woodchuck Cir.). We will hike into the wilderness area approximately one mile and return before 7:30. Expect an introduction to wilderness values and the importance of wilderness to all. Dogs OK, but must be on leash until we cross into the wilderness. DOK. . Hike will be about 4 miles and 800-1,000 feet of gain. Meet at Huffaker Hills Park Trailhead. Take S. McCarren to Alexander Lake Rd. near the intersection of Longley and McCarren.
