Moderate Evening Conditioning Hike

Thunder Mountain Dayhike
. Thunder Mountain is near Carson Pass. Trip is about seven miles with 2,000 feet of elevation gain. Scenic views on an established trail mostly on a ridge line. Learn some history about the area. ND. Leader: T A Taro (775-530-2935). Moderately Strenuous.

September 14 (Saturday) 8:00 a.m.
Machado Postpiles Dayhike
. Explore Fire and Ice the Machado Postpiles in the Carson Pass area. The existence and location of these natural hexagonal basalt columns, similar to, but believed to be millions of years older than the Devils Postpiles near Mammoth were not confirmed until about 1990. That's the 'fire' and the 'ice' is evidenced by the numerous large erratics near beginning of the hike and the glacial striations. About five miles RT with about 800 feet of elevation gain. National Public Lands Day (Weekend)
. We'll be attending National Public Lands Day and camping at Soldier Meadows Hot Spring, one of the prettier hot springs in the Black Rock. Vault toilet or porta-potties. Actual volunteer projects not set yet, but we usually have a work day and a play day. Sidetrips to other hot springs or area attractions likely, we'll be right near High Rock Canyon! Potluck Saturday night is likely. If you bring a dog, be prepared to keep it leashed and clean up after it! We'll probably meet up Friday night and head on up. CB or FRS radio helpful. DOK.
