February 2 (Saturday) 9:00 a.m.
Chickadee Ridge Snowshoe (Date changed from 1/27)
. Join us for a trek in the snow across a meadow and up to a ridge with great vistas of Lake Tahoe. Trip is about 4-5 miles and has 800-1,000 feet of gain. Learn about the local chickadee birds which inhabit the area. This snowshoe is for folks with some experience. Bring plenty of water, gear, and clothing for conditions. Bad weather conditions will cancel for the day, but we will reschedule. DL. Leader: Holly Coughlin (331-7488). Co-Leader: Vesna Koracin (853-1863). Moderate.

February 2 (Saturday) 8:00 a.m.
Churchill Butte
. Churchill Butte is near Silver Springs. Celebrate Ground Hog Day - We will scale the butte, overlooking historic Ft. Churchill, and portions of the emigrant wagon route, ancient and modern Lake Lahontan, the Pony Express Trail and the Lincoln Hwy. Learn some history of the area. Day hike of about 9.5 miles, with at least 1,800 feet of gain for the day; all in the first four miles. Portions of hike are off trail with steep descents. ND. Leader: T A Taro (775-530-2935). February 14 (Thursday) 6:30pm social; 7pm program
The Environmental Ski Report: How green is your ski resort?
. Are you an environmentalist who loves to ski? Would you like to learn more about the environmental practices (good, bad, and ugly) of the ski resorts you frequent? Representatives from the Sierra Nevada Alliance will discuss the Ski Area Citizens' Coalition (http://www.skiareacitizens.com) ski area report card where they rate our local resorts. February 17 (Sunday) 9:00 a.m.
Coldstream Valley Cross-Country Ski
. Moderately easy ski up the U-shaped Coldstream Valley behind Donner Memorial State Park in Truckee. Most of the route is fairly flat on roads, and we expect to make it up to Horseshoe Bend and beyond. Geared for "experienced" beginner and intermediate X-C skiers. 4-6 miles RT, depending on conditions, 200 feet elevation gain. We will learn about the Emigrant Trail, and the rigors of the Donner Party. DL. Leader: Ridge Walker (853-8055). Moderate.

February 23 (Saturday) 8:00 a.m.
Lahontan Petroglyphs Dayhike
. Visit the rock panels on the shores of Lake Lahontan near Silver Springs. Learn some history of the area. High clearance/four wheel drive vehicles recommended or ride share. The hike is about 4 miles R/T, no significant elevation gain. ND. Leader: T A Taro (775-530-2935). Easy.

February 23 (Saturday) 9:00 a.m.
Sagehen Creek Snowshoe
. Join us on this trek along Sagehen Creek to the backside of Stampede Reservoir. Trip is about 6-7 miles and has about 800 feet of total gain. Expect numerous stream crossings over ice bridges, if we have good snow conditions. We will have lunch under a large Ponderosa Pine. Observe animal tracks in the snow. Outings Meeting
. If you are interested in outings or would like more information, coming to an Outings Meeting is a great place to start. We will have a pot-luck style dinner and then discuss upcoming outings and other related issues. The location will be available on-line at a future date or you can call or e-mail Holly for details.
