January 1 (Tuesday) 10:00 a.m.
Annual New Year's Day Mexican Ditch Trail
. Let's get started on those New Year's Eve Resolutions. We will meet at Riverview Park at the east end of Fifth Street in Carson City. From there we will follow the Mexican Ditch Trail south to the Dam and back. 8 miles, no elevation gain. ND. Leader: Donna Inversin (775-315-6763; donnanv1@gmail.com). Moderately Easy.

January 1 (Tuesday) 10:00 a.m.
New Year's Day Annual Recovery Hike
. Join us for the annual recovery hike on New Year's Day. After weeks of overindulgence, it's time to greet the new year with a healthy, vigorous walk. We start at 10 AM to accommodate the late-night revelers and finish before sunset. Exact location to be determined depending on conditions. DOK. January 5 (Saturday) 8:00 a.m.
El Dorado Canyon Dayhike
. El Dorado Canyon is near Dayton. This day hike is about 12 miles roundtrip, montly on a jeep road, with under 600 feet of gain. Riparian habitat with many crossings of small stream. Lunch at the natural arch. Also a small slot canyon to hike on the way out. Learn some history of the area. High clearance vehicle needed or ride share. ND. Leader: T A Taro (775-530-2935). January 10 (Thursday) 6:30pm social; 7pm program
Alaskan/Canadian Backpacking Adventure Slideshow
. Enjoy these breathtaking slides and stories of an adventurer's 3 1/2 month backpacking trip in Alaska and Western Canada. ND. Leader: Valerie Andersen (775-544-3061; mtnval@sbcglobal.net). Easy.

January 12 (Saturday) 8:00 a.m.
Martis Peak Snowshoe
. Vistas of Tahoe and the Truckee area. Trip is about 10 mi., and 2,000 feet of gain. Possible chickadees to observe. Learn about peaks surrounding the area from the fire hut that sits on top of the peak. DL. Leader: Bill Myatt (233-3186). Co-Leader: Gail Myatt (750-1293). Moderately Strenuous.

January 13 (Sunday) 10:00 a.m.
Beginners Cross-Country Ski
. Beginner's cross-country ski trip in the Mt. Rose Meadows. Learn the basics from other Sierra Club X-C skiers: How to fall down, how to get up, and ski on the flats. Must provide your own equipment. Half-day trip. Bring lunch, water, sun-screen, and warm clothing. ND. Leader: Ridge Walker (853-8055). January 19 (Saturday) 8:00 a.m.
The John C Two Enigma Hike
. The John C Two Enigma Hike is near Dayton. Discover some history of the area as we visit two features possibly associated with old mining operations. One-way hike of about eight miles with a vehicle shuttle. Elevation gain of about 1,200 feet for the day. Scenic views. Return paralleling part of the Carson River. Steep and loose material on the descent so sturdy boots are necessary. ND. Leader: T A Taro (775-530-2935). Moderately Strenuous.

January 26 (Saturday) 9:00 a.m.
Skunk Harbor Snowshoe
. Join us for a trek in the snow down an old road to a scenic harbor and historic house on Lake Tahoe. Trip is about 5-6 miles RT and has 800-1,000 feet of gain. Learn about the history of tree reforesting from logging. This snowshoe is for folks with some experience. Parking is limited so we will carpool to the trail head. Bring plenty of water, gear, and clothing for conditions. Bad weather conditions will cancel for the day, but we will reschedule. DL. Leader: Bill Myatt (775-233-3186).
