Tuesday evening hike
. Tuesday hikes are geared toward the beginning hiker. Trips are about 2-3 miles RT and 1 to 2 hours in duration. Thunder Mountain in the Carson Pass area/Hwy 88

Program Meeting: Trailsafe & Nevada Trapping
. Trailsafe co-founder, Trish Swain, will discuss Nevada trapping laws and the organization's efforts to reform them, and long-time wildlife activist, Dr. Don Molde, will demonstrate how to release pets from several styles of traps. A question and answer period will follow the presentation. Location: Girl Scout Building, 605 Washington Street, Reno (S of Hwy 80). ND. Leavitt Meadows Dayhike
.
Cancelled due to schedule conflicts.
Down near Sonora Pass, about a 2-hour drive, but a very nice hike with little elevation gain. Just a very gradual climb up the drainage of the West Walker River, where you go as much distance as you like, without having to do any major climbs. We plan to do approx. 10 miles RT, to enjoy the turning autumn leaves, and the towering peaks on each side of the valley. Hoping to see wildlife like migrating deer and the reclusive Mountain Quail. September 16 (Sunday) 8:00 a.m.
Genoa Loop Trail
. This is a new trail built by the Carson Valley Trails Association. Trip is 8.75 miles RT and has 1,200 feet of gain. We'll start north of historic Genoa behind the old cemetery in Sierra Canyon. Climbing up, we will head south above Genoa and come down Genoa Canyon. We'll return by walking through the township of Genoa. Learn about history. ND. National Public Lands Day Black Rock NCA
. National Public Lands Day is an opportunity to visit some incredible country, and take an active role in preserving your public lands. Learn about the Black Rock NCA Projects will include: Trego Hot Springs Rehab, and clean-up. All meals included except lunch. This is a car camping event. For full details contact Graham. DOK. September 21-23 (Friday-Sunday) TBA
National Public Lands Day in the Black Rock
. We'll meet up Friday evening and head on up. Plan on camping at a hot spring north of Gerlach, putting up rail fence to protect sensitive dunes and archaeological resources. Porta-pottie provided. Learn about hot springs, the Black Rock Desert, and have a work day and a play day. We'll likely visit other area hot springs. Sign up after 9/3. LNT, be prepared to clean up after any dogs. DL. September 22 (Saturday) 7:00 a.m.
Leavitt Peak at Sonora Pass/Hwy 108
. Day hike up Leavitt Peak, elev 11,700. Celebrate the first day of Autumn. About 13 miles RT mostly above the 10,000 foot elevation level on an in and out hike on the PCT. About 3,500 feet of gain for the day. Learn some history of the area. Strenuous; hikers should be experienced and conditioned. ND. Leader: T A Taro (775-530-2935). Strenuous.

Kayak from The Willows Campground, Pyramid Lake

Cancelled due to lack of kayakers.
Late afternoon kayak trip on a (hopefully) placid part of Pyramid Lake known as "Windless Bay." The turnoff to the Willows campground is exactly 2.5 miles down the road past the end of the pavement on Rt. 445 north of Sutcliffe. Ignore the first Willows Campground sign; that road requires a 4x4. We will be camping overnight, and we'll bring two extra inflatable kayaks for those without. It will cost $7 to enter the reservation, $9 if you wish to camp overnight with us. The road down the campground is easily managed by a towed trailer. See the location here ND. September 30 (Sunday) 9:00 a.m.
Mt. Rose Dayhike
. This is a local's favorite hike. Mt. Rose's summit is 10,776 feet. It is the tallest peak within a close range to Reno. We will take the newer route that is 10 miles RT and has about 2,400 feet of gain. Participants need to be in condition for this peak bag, that will be led at a moderately fast pace.
