Hot Springs in Winter
. We'll probably meet up on Friday Night and head up to a hot spring near Gerlach, camp, and then Saturday camp at another, prettier hot spring in the area. Exact itinerary will depend on playa and area conditions. We are also trying to set up access to a another hot spring on private land. Leader is very familiar with the area. New moon the week before will mean good stars. Bad weather cancels. High clearance vehicles, no trailers, 4WD nice but not neccessary. Sign up 3/10 - 3/28. DOK. Leader: David Book (775-843-6443). Spring Kick Off at Soldier Meadows
. Come participate in our Northern season opener as a volunteer in a variety of projects with Friends of Nevada Wilderness and Sierra Club. Opportunities for all ability levels. Moderate Evening Conditioning Hike

Fay-Luther Canyon
. Postponed due to still too much snow. We will try again in a month.
Day hike up this scenic Carson Valley trail, located in Douglas County. If conditions permit (not too much snow), we will try to make it to the crest where if overlooks Horsethief Canyon. Expect to learn about wildflowers, White Fir, and Jeffrey Pines. Ten miles round-trip, 2500 ft. elev. gain, if we make it to the pass. DL. Leader: Ridge Walker (853-8055; edc@unr.edu). Two Ladies and Two Gents
. Come and meet them, three peaks in the 6,000 foot range: Rose, Kate and the Grosch brothers near Virginia City. About 1,000 feet of gain and about three miles in sort of a loop. Mostly off trail, some rock scrambling. ND. Leader: T A Taro (775-530-2935). Moderately Strenuous.

April 11 (Wednesday) 5:30 P.M.
Rattlesnake Mountain/Huffaker Hills Conditioning Hike
. Hike between 3-4 miles and 600-800 feet of gain. Pace will be moderate. Bring plenty of water and clothing for weather. Bring a leash for dogs. From the corner of Longley and S.E. McCarren head east .1 mile to Alexander Lake Rd. and turn right. Follow 1.1 miles to Huffaker Hills Trailhead on right. Park in lot. We leave at 5:45 sharp. Call hotline for verbal directions. DOK. Reseeding Native Plants for Fire Recovery
. Join Graham Stafford & Brenna Archibald of the Nevada Outdoor School to reseed native plants in Tom Basin burn area/Santa Rosa Wilderness. The area is just outside of Winnemucca. It is easy work and the outing is family oriented. All meals are provided except lunch. Licken Peak
. We'll start the hike from the trailhead at Jumbo Grade Rd. Going East we'll hike mainly on roads until we reach the peak. Great views of the Sierra Nevada and the hills toward Virginia City. This is a great way to learn about the trails in our area, meet new people, discuss history, flora, and fauna as we hike, and get some great outdoor conditioning, all at the same time! Cleanwater Parkway Conditioning Hike
. Join us for a faster-paced hike in the hills near Cleanwater Parkway. Hike will be about 4 miles and 800 feet in elevation in 2 hours or less. Bring water, trailshoes, and clothing for weather. Dogs welcome. To get there take I 80 east to McCarren and turnoff to the right. Go across the bridge and get in the left hand lane. Turn left on Cleanwater Parkway (.3 from bridge). Earth Day Idlewild Park/Spring Inventory Training
. Join Graham Stafford & Brian Beffort of Friends of Nevada Wilderness at Reno Earth day in Idlewild Park. Besides having a great time at the event you can learn how to officially inventory springs in the Black Rock Desert High Rock Canyon Immigrant Trails National Conservation Area. We are helping the BLM to identify springs in the conservation area that may need restoration to help preserve our beautiful native wildlife. DOK. April 22 (Sunday) 8:00 a.m.
Buckland Station -Downstream
. Buckland Station south of Silver Springs day hike. This nearly 10 mile loop hike on flat ground will start at historic Buckland Station, proceed downstream along the Carson River enjoying the riparian habitat, and looking for beaver activity. Return will be on a segment of the Pony Express Trail route. Learn some history of the area. $1 per person State Park walk-in fee. Option to tour the remains of Fort Churchill on your own after the hike for additional State Park fee. ND. Leader: T A Taro (775-530-2935). Moderate.

. Hike to State Line Peak (7990') the high point in the Fort Sage Mountains. This range straddles the California/Nevada border with our hike starting from the California side. Map and Compass Class
. Beginner map & compass Class. We'll talk about both hiking navigation with map and compass and navigating backroads, especially in the Black Rock. We'll also talk about safety and survival from a Search and Rescue point of view. About 1/2 day. Instructor is a Desert Rat & Search & Rescue member. Incandescent Rocks Dayhike
. Join us on a favorite hike in the Virginia Mountains near Pyramid Lake. Learn about some of the flora, fauna, and geology of this fascinating landscape. Jumbo Falls
. We'll visit the falls and our own local postpile on the way back. Strenous hike of 12 miles with an elevation gain of about 2,500 feet. Mainly on roads, but some parts are difficult because of conditions of the road. Experience mature pinion pines, junipers, and birds. Worth the work. DOK.
