Hot Springs and Cold Nights
. Hot Springs Tour! Car camping next to a hot spring and a fire! We'll probably meet up Saturday morning in Reno (Possibly meet Friday night) and head up to the Black Rock. Exact itinerary will depend on area conditions. At least one hot spring has good winter access. Bad weather will cancel. Sign up after 3/1/2012. Leader is very knowledgeable of the area. March 10 (Saturday) 8:00a
Jumbo Falls near Washoe Lake
. Visit elusive Jumbo Falls and the "Post Pile" rock formation. About 12 miles RT with an elevation gain of 2,700 with ups and downs and mostly on a jeep road with portions on the historic Jumbo Grade. Learn some history of the area. ND. Leader: T A Taro (775-530-2935). Strenuous.

March 13 (Tuesday) 8:30 a.m.
Dogskin Mountain
. Come celebrate early spring with a Great Basin Peak Section trip to the benchmark on Dogskin Mountain overlooking Winnemucca Ranch and McKissick Canyon north of Sparks. Trip is about 6 miles, but 2,250 feet of elation gain. Learn about flora and fauna in this area. Trip limit. DL. Leader: Sharon Wilcox (852-5075; kaweah7@gmail.com). St. Patrick's Day Dayhike
. Join us on a hike in the Virginia Mountains on this Irish holiday. Exact location TBD by weather conditions. No matter where we go the views are fabulous and sure to please. Trip will be 6-8 miles and may have up to 1,400 feet of gain. Optional: bring an Irish brew for a little tasting at our lunch spot. May the luck of the Irish be with you! DOK. March 21 (Wednesday) 5:30 PM
Spring Fling River Walk
. Welcome Spring with our first evening conditioning hike. After work, along the Truckee River Walk. Easy hike of about 4 miles, and 50 feet elevation gain. Opportunity to see early-blooming cottonwoods, hawks, falcons, and other wildlife; and learn about the riparian environment. DL. Leader: River Walker (473-1445; edc@unr.edu). March 24 (Saturday) 8:00 A.M.
Buckland Station Dayhike
. Buckland Station is on the south side of Silver Springs. This nearly 10 mile loop hike on flat ground will start at historic Buckland Station, proceed downstream along the Carson River enjoying the riparian habitat,and possible beaver activity. Return will be on a segment of the Pony Express Trail route. Learn some history of the area. $1 per person State Park walk-in fee. Option to tour the remains of Fort Churchill on your own after the hike. Learn some history of the area. ND. Leader: T A Taro (775-530-2935). Moderate.

March 24 (Saturday) 9:00 a.m.
Hidden Canyon Day Hike
. Join Pat and Holly on one of their favorite hikes in the Virginia Mountains near Pyramid Lake. Trip is 6-8 miles and has over 1,000 feet of gain. Sturdy boots required. On and off trail hiking. Observe the unique geology of this area as we scramble through a remote canyon. DL. Leader: Holly Coughlin (331-7488). Co-Leader: Pat Kleames (359-5089). Moderately Strenuous.

March 30 - April 1 (Friday-Sunday) TBA
Hot Springs in Winter
. We'll probably meet up on Friday Night and head up to a hot spring near Gerlach, camp, and then Saturday camp at another, prettier hot spring in the area. Exact itinerary will depend on playa and area conditions. We are also trying to set up access to a another hot spring on private land. Leader is very familiar with the area. New moon the week before will mean good stars. Bad weather cancels. High clearance vehicles, no trailers, 4WD nice but not neccessary. Sign up 3/10 - 3/28. DOK. Leader: David Book (775-843-6443). Spring Kick Off at Soldier Meadows
. Come participate in our Northern season opener as a volunteer in a variety of projects with Friends of Nevada Wilderness and Sierra Club. Opportunities for all ability levels. Gloria's Peak
. Great hike in memory of a dear outing's leader. We'll hike in the Pah Rah range mainly cross-country for about 6 miles+ with an elevation gain of 1500+. Great views of Pyramid lake since the start of the hike. We will walk through beautiful rock formation. We might encounter some snow which will make the hike more beautiful.
