July 2-5 (Friday-Monday) call
4th of July in the Black Rock
. Trip Description: Learn about the Black Rock and participate in an optional 1-Day Amateur Radio Class. Earn your Amateur Radio License in just one day. This will be a busy weekend on the playa and fireworks are likely. We'll probably Friday evening and camp at Black Rock Hot Springs for the weekend. Schneider Cow Camp Loop at Carson Pass
. An alternative route to and from Showers Lake through wildflower areas and with great vistas. About 10 miles and 1800 feet of elevation gain. Learn some history of the area. High clearance vehicle needed or possible ride share. ND. Leader: T A Taro (775-530-2935). Moderate.

July 6 (Tuesday) 5:30 p.m.
Tuesday Easy-Paced Conditioning Hike
. Join us on after-work hikes for about 2 hours in the Truckee Meadows. Hikes are geared for beginners or folks who want a more relaxed pace. Trips are 2-4 miles and up to 500 feet of gain. Wednesday Fast-Paced Conditioning Hike

Jamison Lake Dayhike

Ebbett's Pass HIke
. This hike will follow the Pacific Crest Trail north toward Pennyslvania Creek, off Ebbett's Pass. Incredibly scenic high Sierra views, going through summer snow fields. Elevation gain less than 1000 feet, starting at about 8000 feet. Distance about 8 miles round-trip. Moderate hike, but at high altitude. DL. Truckee River afternoon/evening digital photography instruction
. Meet retired professional photographer Graham Stafford in front of the California Bldg. in Idlewild Park at 5:30 PM Wednesday July 14. We will walk along the Truckee River as Graham gives instruction on the proper use of your digital camera and general photography. Graham will also spend personal time with each person and their camera. Bring your camera with the battery fully charged---empty memory card and instruction book. Davis Meadows
. Climb up the Thomas Creek Trail and up and over the headwaters to this high Sierra meadow land located at 8800' elevation. Should see lots of White Bark Pine along the way, and hopefully lots of wildflowers at our destination. Not to mention Blue Grouse if we are lucky. Route is mostly on historical trails as well as a little bit on future trails. Nine miles round-trip, 2500-ft elev. gain. DL. Leader: Ridge Walker (853-8055; edc@unr.edu). Spooner to Marlete Lakes

West Wing of Relay Peak Loop
. On this LOOP version of the West Wing hike, we'll cross Relay Peak at 10,330 ft & then visit the West Wing's rocky knob for lunch. After, we'll hike southward on the Tahoe Rim Trail to a descent near Incline Lake several miles further south. About 12 miles & 1,800 ft ascent. DL. Wildflower & photography Carson Pass hike
. Join wildflower expert Joy Bridgeman and retired professional photographer Graham Stafford in one of the most beautiful wildflower areas is the Sierra Nevada Mtns. Learn about and view many varieties of the alpine flowers of the Sierra on the hike from Carson Pass to Winnemucca Lake. Moderately easy 5 mile round trip. 600 ft. elevation gain. Little Round Top at Carson Pass area/Meiss Ridge
. Day hike that is scenic, and mostly off trail, about 1,800 feet of gain, mostly at the beginning, about 8 miles in a loop. We will summit several crests about 9,400 feet elevation along Meiss Ridge. Narrow route with severe drop-off at beginning of hike. Hikers should be experienced and conditioned. July 24 (Saturday) 8:30 a.m.
Pah Rah Range Peak Ramble
. Ridge ramble to two of the highest summits of the Pah Rah Range, Virginia Peak (8366') and Pah Rah Mtn (8240'). Both peaks are on the GBPS peaks list. Panoramic vistas of Pyramid Lake and points north. Mostly cross-country over rolling volcanic terrain. Eight miles round-trip, 1000-ft elev. gain. Moderate difficulty. DL. July 25 (Sunday) 7:30 a.m.
Ophir Creek Trail
. Join us on one way descent of approximately 3,400 feet (don't worry, there will be some climbing too!) from Tahoe Meadows to Davis Creek Park past Price Lake and Rock Lake. This will require car shuttle so we will meet early at 7:30 a.m. The seven and one-half mile trek will provide excellent chance to identify many tree and flower species. Mt. Elwell and Sierra Buttes Weekend
. Join us for an adventurous weekend of hiking and camping. We will car camp in the Lakes Basin area and hike Mt. Elwell on Saturday. This hike is about 8 miles RT and has 1,800 feet of gain. The wildflowers should still be pretty fantastic. Sunday we hike the Buttes, at 6 miles RT, but 2,380 feet of gain. Incredible views of of the Yuba River Canyon. Call by 7-21 to secure a spot. July 31 (Saturday) 8:30 a.m.
Triangle Lake, Echo Pk. and Angora Lks. Loop
. A challenging adventure on unmaintained trails and off trail, including a steep, off-trail descent to Angora Lks. This hike visits both Desolation Wilderness and the nearby Angora Resort and is a good place to see and examine the management aspects of each. Wildflowers and views will be the highlights.
