June 5 (Saturday) 8:00 a.m.
Kings Canyon
. Hike Kings Canyon from Carson City to Spooner Summit. About 18 miles R/T with 2,000 feet of gain in this in-and-out on the old stage route/Lincoln Highway. Option to tour some remains of the logging railroad at the summit. Learn some history of the area, and enjoy some views. ND. Leader: T A Taro (775-530-2935). Moderately Strenuous.

June 5 (Saturday)
Pond Peak (8300')
. Desert peak bag of the highest summit (8300 ft) at the south end of of the Pah Rah Range, west of Wadsworth. About 11 mi, 2500 ft gain, half cross-country on rocky terrain. Bring the usual essentials. Expect to see lots of bird life, maybe wild mustangs. Trip Limit: 12. DL. Leader: Ridge Walker (853-8055; edc@unr.edu). Moderately Strenuous.

Climb Peavine Mountain
. Join us on this adventure up the northeast side of Peavine to the towers at the top. Most of this outing is on existing dirt roads. Trip will be about 10 miles RT with an estimated gain of 2,400 feet. Learn about some of the flora and fauna we will observe along the way. Trip limit 12. DOK. Leader: Holly Coughlin (331-7488). Humbug Trail
. Hike along Humbug Creek to South Yuba River during Malakoff Diggins Homecoming Day. Six miles R.T., 1000 ft gain. Learn about the mining era. Great swimming. ND. Leader: Craig Mastos (348-1862; maquis@softcom.net). Moderate.

June 12 (Saturday) 8:00 a.m.
John C Two Enigma
. Hike near Dayton and discover some of the history of the area as we visit two features associated with old mining operations. One-way hike of about seven miles with a vehicle shuttle. Elevation gain of about 1,000 feet for the day. Scenic views; returning parallel to part of the Carson River. ND. Leader: T A Taro (775-530-2935). Moderately Easy.

June 13 (Sunday) 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Tamarack Peak - A New Loop
. We'll follow the old TRT to the Frog Pond. Then it's off-trail up the moderately steep Southwestern ridgeline directly to the big Rock Outcrop at 9,600 ft. This lunchstop is unexcelled for its vista all the way down Lake Tahoe. Return will be along the Eastern ridgeline, to reach the new TRT. About 6 miles RT & 1000 ft total ascent. DOK. 3rd Annual Buckbean Mixer
. Join your fellow Great Basin Group members and friends at one of our most generous, supportive, and fun local businesses. Enjoy a pint of one of the great Buckbean brews, graze on appetizers, and socialize in a great after-work (or after-conditioning hike) setting. Attendees are encouraged to buy a beer or contribute to the host. Non-alcoholic drinks will be available. Incandescent Rocks
. Located off Pyramid HWY 447. Hike through an interesting canyon to wind sculpted rock formations on the highest ridge. We will gaze at Monkey Condos, Pyramid Lake and beyond. The group will be making a loop back to the cars. Wear trail shoes and bring hiking poles for loose footing in canyon. Bring lunch, sunscreen, and all the essentials. DOK. Rubicon Trail
. Hike along Lake Tahoe shore from D.L. Bliss Park to Emerald Bay. Negligible gain,9 mi. R.T. Learn about the old lighthouse. Possible swimming if spring weather warms up enough. ND. Leader: Craig mastos (348-1862; maquis@softcom.net). Moderate.

Longest Day Evening Hike
. Hike to the top of "Road to Nowhere" peak, the highest one on the skyline east of Reno. 6 miles RT, and 1500-ft elevation gain. Brisk pace, not for beginning hikers. We will take advantage of the latest sunset and the longest twilight of the year, to march beyond sunset. DL. Leader: Ridge Walker (473-1445; edc@unr.edu). June 25-27 (Friday-Sunday) 9:00 a.m.
Sheldon National Wildlife Refuge Service Trip
. Visit the wildlife refuge in Nevada's remote northwestern corner. We'll do service work (fence removal, etc.) on Saturday with other conservation groups, under refuge supervision. Friday and Sunday are travel days with many interesting places to visit. Learn about the refuge's purpose, wildlife, flora, and management practices. June 26 (Saturday) 8:30 a.m.
Loch Leven
. Nice lunch and swimming spot at the middle lake. About 7 mi. R.T., 1000 ft gain. Learn about the railroads that run through this area. DL. Leader: Craig mastos (348-1862; maquis@softcom.net). Moderate.

June 27 (Sunday) 9:00AM - 3:00PM
Church's Pond Loop
. Starting from Galena Creek Park we'll hike through pine forest to reach White's Creek. We'll ascend near the creek, sometimes crossing by whatever means available. Reaching the trail summit, we'll turn westward a mile or so for a lunch break at Church's Pond, far below the shoulder of Mt Rose. Return will be a relatively rapid descent on the sunnier Jones Creek Trail back to Galena Creek Park. About 11 miles RT, 1,900 ft ascent. DOK. June 27 (Sunday) 8:30 a.m.
Faye-Luther Trail
. This is a beautiful trail built by the Carson Valley Trails Association near Genoa. We'll get up high enough to enjoy great views of the Carson Valley. About 7 miles and 800 feet of gain. Limit 10.
