December 4 (Saturday) 8:30 a.m.
Churchill Butte
. Churchill Butte, near Silver Springs. We will scale the butte, overlooking historic Ft. Churchill, and portions of the emigrant wagon route, ancient and modern Lake Lahontan, the Pony Express Trail and the Lincoln Hwy. Learn some history of the area. Day hike of about 9.5 miles, with at least 1,800 feet of gain for the day; all in the first four miles. Portions of hike are off trail with steep descents. ND. Leader: T A Taro (775-530-2935). December 4 (Saturday) 6:30 - 9:30 pm
Holiday Party
. Come one, come all to our Annual Sierra Club Christmas Party. Music, food, dancing and friends all in a beautiful setting. Bring a dish to share, your "mess kit," and BYOB if desired. The festivities will be held at Patagonia at 8550 White Fir Drive. To get there drive west on I-80 to West McCarran Blvd. Go south and turn right on West 4th Street. Travel 2 miles and turn left on Woodland Street. Go over the railroad tracks and turn right onto White Fir Drive. The Patagonia driveway is just before the bridge on the left. December 5 (Sunday) 9:30 AM
Granite Wall Snowshoe
. We'll slowly snowshoe off-trail up through a forest, rising 700 ft within a mile and a half. The last several hundred yards is a snowshoe-traverse up a very steep hill. We'll top-over to find ourselves atop the backside of a 300-400 ft. high white granite wall, with great views of both Tamarack Peak and Mt Rose. DOK. Leader: Riccardo B. (775-345-2770). December 5 (Sunday) 11:30 a.m.
White Creek to Dry Pond Dayhike
. This will be a nice afternoon hike in the forested slopes on the western side of the Truckee Meadows. Learn about flora and fauna that we observe. Geared for those folks that would like to get out a little later in the day. We'll have lunch around 1:00 p.m. with a vista of the slopes of Slide Mountain. DOK. Leader: Holly Coughlin (331-7488). December 11 (Saturday) 9:30 AM
Snowshoe to Tamarack Peak
. Leaving the mountainside snow-trail within a half-mile, we'll snowshoe off-trail upward through the forest, staying close to the eastern fall-away ridgeline (cirque) of Tamarack Peak. After slowly climbing 1,000 ft with greater & greater vistas, we'll summit at 9,900 ft. where we'll take our lunch-break with a grand 22-mile vista of Lake Tahoe way below us. December 18 (Saturday) 8:30 a.m.
Carson River Railroads
. Carson River Railroads near Moundhouse. Day hike of about 12 miles one way with a vehicle shuttle. Elevation gain of less than 1,000 feet. Hike along the scenic Carson River Canyon and learn about two of the railroads of the Comstock era. Portions of the hike are cross-country. ND. Leader: T A Taro (775-530-2935). Moderate.

December 19 (Sunday) 9:00 a.m.
Fort Churchill
. We'll park at the entrance to Fort Churchill State Park and follow a trail that will take us to the fort. We'll spend a little time exploring the old Fort buildings before we go down to the Carson River and follow a trail along there and back to the highway and the cars. December 31 (Friday)
New Year's in Gerlach
. Meet other Sierra Club members and Friends of the Black Rock for an easy holiday weekend in Gerlach. Walking between the three bars of Gerlach, learn about the Black Rock Desert area. Visit the nearby art gallery, Doobie Road and other local attractions. Stay at Bruno's Country Club Motel, reservations 775-557-2220. Visit nearby hot springs as conditions permit.
