March 5 (Sunday) 9:45 A.M.
Snowshoe Sagehen Creek
. Depending on snow conditions, we will snowshoe into Sagehen Creek or do an alternate desert hike. Sagehen Creek is a scenic snowshoe that ends up at the end of Stampede Reservoir. The outing is about 7 miles RT at a moderate pace, and has about 600 feet of gain, overall. Bring plenty of water to stay hydrated, lunch, layer clothing, hat, gloves, and sunscreen. This is not a good trip for beginners, experienced snowshoers only. Well-mannered dogs are welcome, but have a leash for near the road and baggies for clean-up. Burro Mt. Hike
. Weather permitting, we will drive to the Smoke Creek Desert above Pyramid Lake and hike to the top of Burro Mountain on the west side of the playa. Along the way, we will make a couple stops to learn about the history of this area and view some of the artifacts. Rain or snow cancels the trip. Call for details. DOK. John C Two Enigma
. Hike is near Dayton. Features associated with old mining operations. One-way hike of eight miles with a vehicle shuttle. Expect a 2,000 ft gain. Scenic views. Return paralleling Carson River. Penny Pines Snow Shoe

March 19 (Sunday) 9:00 A.M.
Forestdale Cross Country Ski
. Cross county 6-8 mile ski into the glaciated Forestdale Valley east of Carson Pass. For strong beginners as well as experienced back country skiers. The first half is moderately easy into the valley, with surrounding good telemark slopes. Optimal stop at Grovers Hot Springs after the ski. ND. Leader: Ridge Walker. (853-8055). Moderate.

Two Ladies and Two Gents
. Come and meet them; 3 peaks over 6,000 ft; Rose & Kate Sutro, and the Grosch brothers. Near Virginia City with 1,000 feet of gain in a three mile loop. Mostly off trail, some rock scrambling. An enigma. ND. Leader: T A Taro (775-530-2935). Moderately Strenuous.

March 22 (Wednesday) 5:30 P.M.
Spring Fling River Walk
. Welcome Spring with our first evening conditioning hike. After work, along the Truckee River Walk. Easy hike of about 4 miles, and 50 feet elevation gain. Opportunity to see early-blooming cottonwoods, hawks, falcons, and other wildlife; and learn about the riparian environment. Meeting at Rock Park in Sparks.
Directions: From I-80, exit on Rock Blvd, and turn south.In about 1/2 mile, just past Greg Blvd., turn right at the entrance to Rock Park. (Next to the Rivers Edge RV Park, and before you cross the Truckee River.)

Petersen Mountain Exploratory Hike
. We will explore a different side of Petersen Mountain by starting from an area northeast of the peak. This is an area that has solitude, wildlife and many other wilderness attributes that deserve to be protected for future generations. Representatives from Friends of Nevada Wilderness will explain the history of the area and what they are doing (and what you can do) to encourage the BLM to provide better protection for these wild lands. The peak, at 7841 ft, is also on the Sierra Club's Great Basin Peaks list. The hike will be 6-8 mi with about 2000-2400 ft of elevation gain.
